Venus Fest 2024: A Celebration of Diversity in Music
Venus Fest, Toronto’s beloved not-for-profit music festival, returns for its 2024 edition from September 25-28, promising an eclectic mix of performances and art installations across multiple venues. This year’s festival continues its mission of elevating diverse voices and creating safe art spaces, with a lineup that showcases both established and emerging talents.
The festival kicks off on September 25 with a stunning A/V installation by Suzanne Morrissette titled “one and the same” at Allan Gardens. This free, all-ages exhibit will run nightly from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM throughout the festival, offering a mesmerizing blend of visual art and sound.
On September 26, Venus Fest collaborates with Not Dead Yet to present a special 19+ show at the Monarch Tavern. While the lineup for this night hasn’t been announced yet, it’s sure to feature cutting-edge performers that push the boundaries of contemporary music.
The festival reaches its peak on September 27 and 28 at It’s OK* Studios. These nights will feature an impressive roster of artists, including the provocative reggaeton-pop sensation Isabella Lovestory, experimental electronic artist claire rousay, and the chaotic club sounds of rEmPiT g0dDe$$ from Kuala Lumpur. Toronto’s own WeTurnToRed will bring her unique blend of modular synth artistry and DJ skills to the stage.
In addition to the musical performances, Venus Fest 2024 offers a rich tapestry of complementary experiences. The Vazaar Arts Market will showcase local artisans, offering everything from handcrafted goods to body work and nail art. Art curator Anique Jordan has put together a thought-provoking collection of visual art that will be on display throughout the festival.
Accessibility and inclusivity remain at the forefront of Venus Fest’s mission. ASL music interpretation by Phoenix The Fire will be available at all performances, ensuring that deaf and hard-of-hearing attendees can fully engage with the music. The festival also features a Restorative Zone, providing a quiet space for those who need a break from the excitement.
Venus Fest 2024 is more than just a music festival; it’s a celebration of diversity, creativity, and community. By bringing together a wide range of artists and art forms, it creates a unique platform for cultural exchange and artistic expression. Whether you’re a long-time fan of independent music or simply curious about the cutting edge of Toronto’s arts scene, Venus Fest offers an unparalleled opportunity to discover new sounds, ideas, and connections.
